Access from Mauléon-Barousse
This beautiful course crosses the Barousse Valley and ascends a “hors categorie” climb. Worth mentioning, this road that leads over the mountain pass long remained a forest trail in the Barousse valley (Hautes-Pyrénées) and a pastoral trail in the valley of Oueil (Haute-Garonne), until 2006 when it was paved for the Tour de France in 2007.
To start this climb, you must pass through Mauléon-Barousse in the Bagnères-de-Luchon valley (73 km). The course starts at 604m but, despite a moderate gradient, is considered difficult. It has featured five times in the “Grande Boucle” of the Tour De France.
The climb begins at an altitude of 604 m with an average gradient of 6% over 18.9 km to end at 1,755 m meaning a height gain of 1,151m. The climb will take about 2 hours 40.
